Opened in the late 1880’s by Mrs Brigitte Funnemark and her daughter as a boarding house for sailors and longshoreman.  The Seamen’s Rest is now on the Tacoma Register of Historic Places.  The house provided a “safe” place for those tempted by the many saloons in Old Town.
